Either way, it's still one of my favorite lines from the film.

It's been a while since I saw this film, but, yeah, I believe he did exclaim those exact words during the underwater scene. "Ya fuqqin' dancer!" is a well known and well used phrase in western and eastern Scotland (namely, in the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh). It has died out slightly over the last ten or so years, but was hugely popular throughout the 80s and 90s. It basically means to have good luck or fortune. I used it quite a lot when I was a young lad throughout the 80s here in west Scotland.

Ironman54 . . . I do not know the origins, nor the etymology, of the term (I will find out eventually, one day . . . lol . . . ). However, rest assured that it is definitely Scottish slang and Scottish vernacular, often said when something great or euphoric happens. Example -- Billy (Davie's friend) "Davie, you've just won 2 thousand pounds on the lottery." Davie: "Ya fuqqin' dancer!!!"
I love that scene.
I think it's maybe meant to demonstrate the amount of sh!t a drug addict has to go through to get his fix. Although they tell it hilariously and perfectly.

Just watched the infamous toilet scene there again on youtube . . . Renton definitely says, "Yeeeeesssss . . . ya fuqqin' dancer!" Like I said in one of my previous replies on this thread, I come from central Scotland, UK -- where the characters in this film are from and where this film is set -- and the phrase "ya dancer" has been used here for many years and continues to be used in the present day. It is a well-known, well-used slang/colloquial phrase that is used to convey euphoria, exultation, great joy and happiness.
