Just saw this since it first came out.

Based on the fashion and the talk of The Untouchables, I assume this is set in the late 80s-very early 90s, tight washed out jeans for guys. But does anyone have a specific date?

Also how old is every character supposed to be? In the film that is, I assume Renton & his friends (except Begbie) are 19-22-ish?

the book is set in the late 80s but the film blurs this to anything between about 1988 and 1992 due to some cultural references. Assume 1990 and you're not far wrong.

I think Renton is meant to be 25, so i assume the others are similar and Begbie is a bit older.
