One of the most under appreciated films of all time
It's quite sad how this film has just slowly disappeared. I first saw it on laserdisc with EngRish subtitles and fell in love with it. Naturally I snagged the DVD when it was released but found it to be far worse than the laserdisc. The sound was harsh and compressed and the image was badly encoded. The laserdisc looked far better.
Years later there was a second release but it wasn't much better. This is an amazing film and one deserving of the Criterion treatment. Yet that is likely not to happen since so few people have ever heard of this classic love story.
