One of the most under appreciated films of all time

It's quite sad how this film has just slowly disappeared. I first saw it on laserdisc with EngRish subtitles and fell in love with it. Naturally I snagged the DVD when it was released but found it to be far worse than the laserdisc. The sound was harsh and compressed and the image was badly encoded. The laserdisc looked far better.

Years later there was a second release but it wasn't much better. This is an amazing film and one deserving of the Criterion treatment. Yet that is likely not to happen since so few people have ever heard of this classic love story.

In Korea it is still very popular.
I watched it as a kid when it came out and now own a DVD of it (although it is a dying market).
It also plays from time to time on TV.

I agree with you that it is an amazing film.
Very sweet, heartbreaking and quite realistic in its portrayal of characters and their difficulties in life leading to their choices.
I always end up in tears at final 10 minutes of the film.
Great great romance film. Really needs more people to watch it!
