Very Good Movie

I loved Martin's character in the movie. I like him in silly roles, but in this one he was also trying to be sexy.

???...Why is this movie getting no love?

reply

Good question. I think Martin as some kind of playboy was hard enough to get used to. Seriously though, had this movie been released after Bad Boys it would've gotten alot more exposure. I think it's a pretty cool movie myself. I could watch Martin and Miguel Nunez go at it all day.

.............."Pretty Ricky" is what they called him.

I have seen all sorts of people be playboys, or "commitmentphobics". I don't know how many times I've watched one of those court TV shows and there's two, even three women in a dispute that centers around a guy doesn't even look desirable, let alone IS desirable.

On some points, this movie did portray such a person accurately. Some things I noticed of interest are that in the riding scene, Brandi is pushing Darnell away when he gets too intimate. Notice how after Darnell has won the bet, and they're in the same position in Darnell's place, Darnell is the one pushing Brandi away. This shows a shift in power. Although that makes perfect sense, at the time when the actual shift takes place - when Brandi is holding the crystal bird and looking at Darnell - doesn't seem plausible. Somehow it was too quick. Also, at the end, the movie implies that Darnell has learned his lesson. That may not be. He might feel that way in the hospital, but that doesn't mean that he will feel the same after he's discharged and feeling better.

I think both Brandi and Darnell ignored the warning signs from each other in the beginning. Brandi wanted badly to fall in love, and Darnell wanted to win the bet and his conquest. Neither of them stopped to see the hints of the consequences that could occur later.

On the idea that Martin Lawrence's character "learning his lesson at the end of the movie, while in the hospital, but possibly not feeling that way upon discharge": after the experience that he had with Lynn Whitfield's character - I would say that he did learn his lesson after all (most any normal person would), and would probably be unlikely to cheat again, knowing that there's the possibility that he might not live to regret it (as was almost the case in the movie here).

You would think that would be the case, but not necessarily. It's like the alcoholic who goes to rehab, but then eventually re-starts his old bad habits, and then returns to drinking. You'd think after all the trouble he went through before he went to rehab AND what he went through during rehab, he would swear off drinking forever. He might, and he might not because he is an addict. Just like Darnell is addicted to women, or relationships.

I liked Martin's character in this movie for just the reason you mentioned...he was trying to be sexy. Now personally, I have to admit that I have always found Martin Lawrence sexy but never more so than in this film. I'm not sure what it was about him, but I could definitely understand why Lynn Whitfield's character could become obsessed with him.

Most playboys don't look like Boris Kodjoe. They usually have a lot of persistence to their game combined with the ability to attract insecure and vulnerable women. That was Martin Lawrence's character. Look at all of his conquest: a super shy female, a gullible woman easily swayed by words, a single mother desperate for love, and a psycho woman who has been scorned way too many times. While Darnell didn't really have the looks (he was average), he did know how to play the game and that's all that matters.

I hate 2 admit it but...martin looked sexy n this movie WOW never thought id say that!

I thought that miss movie was pretty good actually. It wasn't a ten star movie that I want to watch everyday, but it deserves better than 4.5 stars. The rating would be higher if more people heard about it.

I think it's okay. Not the worst film I've seen and by no means the best.

Lynne Whitfield, to me actually made the film watchable. I was cheering her
on. She did what alot of other women should've done. Not put up with BS like
that. She just went a bit too far.

This was an awful piece of garbage in which Lawrence- typically- embodies and promotes many negative black stereotypes. Do you really believe an educated business woman would fall for an illiterate hood rat whose vocabulary consists mainly of juvenile sexual references, f--k and mf-er? How stupid. Lawrence is a third rate actor playing to an uneducated audience- which does account for his success, huh?
