This is such a great movie and Tom Hanks did such a great job making it that I think it deserved better. Not t to mention all the actors who learned to play and sing these great songs. Even the story is excellent. I don't understand why this movie didn't do better but I love it. I think it's very underrated. And I recommed the extended cut.
shareWell, if you compare it to some of Hanks' other works, it isn't a masterpiece, it is just okay. It came out in the fall of 1996 and there were a lot of other films around at the time and sometimes there isn't enough audience to go around.
shareIt really wasn't supposed to make money. It's kind of a loss leader film that a studio lets a big star make as a vanity piece to keep him happy. That it turned out so well and is fairly popular is a testament to the work done. It's still in fairly regular rotation on cable. That's not bad for a 20 year old fairly low budget film.
