The death footage

Somewhere in this movie (can't remember exactly, it's been a while) this one student is watching some sicko movies, since he's 'really into that', or something. Anyway, from what I know the footage shown then is from Faces Of Death. (if it isn't, please correct me) My main question is, however, (since a lot FoD stuff is apparently fake) is the footage featured real or fake? I've been doubting about buying it, but if it's the real deal displayed there, I might just want to leave it there. =P I thought the movie was great and I got a reasonably hard stomach, but when it comes to real shizzle I'd rather just leave it.

Meh, well, maybe I will buy Tesis after all then. It's just that the real stuff grosses me out. I mean, Guinea Pig, np, but the real shizzle, meh. I've read tons and tons about FoD, but I have never had any slight desire to watch either that one or any off the millions of rip-offs (and predecessors). Anyway, I already saw Tesis once so I guess I'll just have to bear with that 'Fresh Blood' footage stuffed in.

The Internet Movie Database erroneously attributes the footage shown in Tesis to Faces of Death. The scenes from Tesis are, to the best of my knowledge, fake. While I don't have proof of this, here is why I think so:

1. I am an avid watcher/collector of "death tapes" (sort of a real-life Chema, only nicer ;) and would have most certainly recognized the source of at least one of the pieces of the footage.
2. The scenes from "Fresh Blood", while jarring, weren't particularly graphic, and could be recreated rather easily.
3. The bits they show of the actual snuff film looked horrifying real, even though it obviously wasn't. If they could fake a snuff film this well, I'm sure they could fake some death footage and make it look equally disturbing.
4. Given the themes and subject matter of the film, choosing to use actual death footage sort of invalidates many of the filmmaker's statements about violence. Showing actual death would be grossly hypocritical, given the film's strong antiviolent message.

But, whatever the case, I can say with 100% certainty that the footage was not borrowed from Faces of Death.

Thanks for your reply, highly appreciated.

As for the scenes being graphic or not - I can't quite remember, but I'm sure you are quite right; it's been a while since I have seen this movie. And indeed, it could easily have been recreated, especially knowing what kind of sick stuff can be recreated these days (August Underground series, anyone?). And indeed - using actual footage would be quite hypocrital.

The whole footage that Angela sees in Chema´s house is fake, directed by Amenabar with his Sony XT-500 (The same that is showed in the movie) The proof is on the Spanish edition of the DVD (soundtrack with comentaries of Amenabar)
