Kiyone or Achika?
Who do you prefer as the Mom of Tenchi? Kiyone Masaki, or Achika Masaki?

They are both the same but i prefer tenchi's mom being named achika for some reason.
sharelol no they aren't. The only similarties the two share is that they are both the mother of Tenchi, but they're personalities, looks and over all characters are vastly different.
I do agree with you on prefering the name Achika though.
well i mean both are supposed to supply the same function as as for kiyones personality you got that she seemed to be gentle but you never could really say she wasn't like achika and in terms of looks when achika battled kain she looked almost exactly like kiyone when she unleashed her jurain power .

Well that's the funny part, we never really know if the gentle part of Kiyone was Kinyone, or Tenchi's sister Tennyo. To me Tennyo seemed to be the kinder one, as you can tell she enjoyed cooking and sleeping with Tenchi, as well as giving him a bath.
Meh I wouldn't say the looks are similar even after Achika releases her power. It's true though they have similar hair color, but I wouldn't say that makes her look exactly like Kiyone.
However have you watched Tenchi in love 2? In that movie Yosho's dead wife, Tenchi's grandmother and Achika's mother looks exactly like Kiyone, the only difference between the two is that Kiyone has grey hair while Yosho's wife has black hair. Still the looks there are exactly the same.
i only watched it once i have 2 copies of the movies actually but i was so disapointed with third movie and just plain creeped out by the second that i dont bother to watch them but i'll look at it .

Achika. Kiyone was kind of weird looking. She didn't look like anyone else in the Masaki family, and she didn't look like her mom either. She looked like an old lady. Not only that, but I didn't really like her personality. I mean, I'm sure Kiyone had her good points. For instance, she and Yosho came up with the plan to bring little Tenchi to the cave to visit with Ryoko so that they would bond, because they knew Ryoko was lonely. But I don't know, seeing the flashbacks of her in the 3rd OAV made her seem kind of obnoxious. She drew on Tenchi's face when he was sick! That's awful.
Achika to me seemed like more of a real person. We got to see how her and Tenchi's dad fell in love, which was nice.
I agree. I like Achika much better. If I could save one of them, I wouldn't have let Achika die.
