One of the most criminally underrated films ever!

I mean seriously, no one hardly knows about this film. While Home Vision DVD released some of his other films, they have yet to release this. This is a masterpiece and I can mention it in the same breath as "City of God", "Kids", "Pulp Fiction" and Beineix's "Diva". I bought a region 3 dvd with no extras from www.diabolikdvd.com, I would love to see a special Criterion addition with extras and a soundtrack!

Still no response to my post yet. My point is proven. It's as if people would rather watch "Twilight" and boring commercial dribble.

I saw this film a few years ago and I agree it's quite good, but I still prefer Lily Chou Chou. Twilight is worth watching with rifftrax, btw.

It is much better than "kids" which isnt so great movie

This film is soooo beautiful! Definitely the best film I've seen nearly.

I thought about the movie Tekkon kinkurîto(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0831888) when watching. The settings are similar, but come on, Tekkon was anime and this is real movie!

I just watched it for the first time even though I've been a fan of Shunji Iwai since seeing All About Lily Chou-Chou around 10 years ago.

It honestly wasn't what I was expecting after reading the brief synopsis here on imdb. It was quirky and a bit different to the other films I've seen from this director. I'm not sure if I liked it, maybe I didn't pick up on the deeper themes but it didn't resonate with me as well as All About Lily Chou-Chou did.

I agree. I watched this after buying the dvd, thinking it sounded good and it instantly became one of my favorite movies ever. And I have a pretty high standard for those. It's like a modern fairy tale and it's really moving. Even my gf at the time who is Asian too(but not Japanese) and hated Asian films before liked it and we both cried a bit at the end. If a movie can touch you, that's when you know it's really something you want to watch again and again and share with others.
