Maggie?

I havent seen this movie in a long time and just remembered about it while watching "Serial Mom". I remembered the kid who played Zach, and that he was a character in a Disney movie i always use to watch. Yes i am angry they dont play it anymore too. But, refresh my memory - I know susie is dead nd zach likes her nd all .. but at the end .. a girl just like her named maggie ends up coming to the high school too? please comment back !!!

You hit the nail on the head!

Is Maggie really Susie or is it just a coincidance?

Actually, since she said "Jeepers" I guess I already have my answer.

reply

Maggie=Susie, although I never got that back when I was a kid.

If I recall right Susie died on the way to the prom I think her and her boyfriend were killed by drunk drivers who accidently hit them and their car crashed of the bridge and into the lake. Zach and his little sister were fishing (in that very lake) and one of them fished up Susie's necklace which somehow made her ghost appear. Well If I remember right isn't Susie's father Zach's basketball coach. Zach talks about Susie to her parents and he ends up setting her spirit free by helping her to finish what she couldn't and after all that Susie and Zack said good-bye at the bridge where she died .Her boyfriend (the old prom date guy) picked her up in his retro-car and they finally get the chance to both be at peace and go to their prom. The next day or so Zach is going to class when he hears this girl talking to some other girls and her voice sounds exactly like Susie's. He walks up to a girl (who is wearing a black middrift shirt and black jeans I remembered that after about like 5 years) he says "Hi" and she turns around and she looks exactly the same as Susie and she says, "Hi, My name's Maggie. I'm new here" Then the movie ends. I'd think that she might be Susy reincarnated or just a pretty girl who looks like her either way it was a great ending. I actually said that whole thing from memory and I saw this when I was about 8 and I'm now 15. I'm good like that.

You were very close, but not quite. Zach finds maggie's bracelet. Maggie's ghost came back because her grandfather had died and nobody knew where the deed to the property was. They were going to lose his property to the bank (which is a large portion of the town). Maggie and Zach go back to find the deed and save the day by taking it to Zach's mom's news station and having her read it on the air. Susie's father used to be the old basketball coach, but he quit coaching basketball after Susie died, but he did give Zach his play book. :) I may be leaving stuff out but that's the stuff that I remember.

reply

No it was definatley susies ghost. And the deed belonged to susies grandfather which was kept hidden behind a secret door in her old closet (now zachs closet). He was trying to find it the night suzie died but she was in such a rush she never bothered to listen to him. of course he passed on after a few years (he was old.) If you remember, suzie's grandpa was in the car that finally picked suzy up. he was in the back seat and the boyfriend, grandfather and suzie got to move on. Then maggie was probably a coincidence, but I dont think anyones sure.

reply

and am I correct when I say that they had one part of the movie where there was like a 'shrine' to susie where there was awards and her cheerleading picture at her school?

I think that Zach was just imagining her! (oh, i loved the part when Susie Q messd up Zahc's mom at the waeather station, and when Zachs sister helped them get out of the jail! (which was really susie helping the sis)

This is a neoromantic existentialists drama from the perspective of a gHOST!!

i agree, i think he was imagining her also.

If you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it copy this and make it your signature!

Do you remember why they went to jail? Wasn't someone trying to stop them from reading the deed to the public?

reply

I think they just got in trouble for trying to get the papers and thought he was crazy or something.

If you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it copy this and make it your signature!

reply

almost, there was just a picture of her with all the other cheerleaders i think.

im guessing just one correction- the play book says 1975 (not 1955 when she died) so he did not quit coaching after she died but probably continued till his retirement. which is why susie says he gave so much to this town/school.
just my take on it, from what i saw- could be wrong.

Its Susie's ghost and Susie's bracelet, hence the title of the movie. Maggie doesn't appear until the end.

Very good. But brick not hit back!

I think that "rockerhalloween" is right on the money with #3 and I do believe she was reincarnated. Susie never had children and neither did her parents (besides her) the chances that someone would look like a clone of her is unlikely. As for the shrine of her at school, I'm sure kids will assume that Maggie looks like Susie---a lot and dismiss it.

I think the ending just gives the audience assurance about the fact that Zach won't end up alone (and that there is reincarnation as well as a heaven when you do good in the world) and will explore his relationship with this girl (Maggie) more and that's something he didn't have a chance to do at all with her as a ghost. Susie belonged with her boyfriend and in the present life belongs with Zach. As "rockerhalloween" said: "they say that we recognize (eachothers) souls in reincarnation philosophy" and they also say that we travel in circles, so to give you an idea, say, you have feelings for a brother--you were probably lovers in a past life and those feelings come from that life and into your present one. So even if she doesn't look like a clone of Susie to others, Zach still recognizes Susie's soul in Maggie and it's shown in a literal way.

Hope I made sense :D

My take on this has always been that Susie was offered a second chance at life, and she took it. Maybe she won't remember Zach exactly when she reincarnates as Maggie, but the chemistry will still be there, and Zach will have the memory of her. As for others recognizing her from the photo in the trophy case, could anyone else actually see it? It's only brought up one time, by a janitor we never see again. But it's not really relevant to the plot either. This is a 90s TV movie and it needs a happy ending, which is what we got.

By the way, there are several copies on YouTube which are reasonably good quality. There's a lot of other old Disney Channel movies on there too. It's like going back to my own childhood.

Yeah, I agree with all this.

If you go back to the beginning of the movie, Suzie has to find a document of her grandfather's that would save her parents, and the town from crooked bankers, cops and developers. But she also had to get Zach interested in basketball again (after the death of his father). The reality is that basketball game would have been the highlight of his life, because with no Suzie, his heart would not be in it,so he would eventually lose interest in playing. Basically there probably is no other girl (or later on woman) for him. Why? She is his soul mate. Spoilers ahead: If you watch the final scenes of the movie. 1: She has him keep her bracelet, almost like before the car came to pick her up, she knew was coming back, and he is simply holding it for her (even though Zach did not know). 2: When she returns (as Maggie), not only does Zach know her he uses her word "Jeepers" but as she introduces herself as Maggie she knows him as well.

I think once she got to heaven she was offered a second chance at life since hers was cut short. But she could only come back with another identity and her memory would be erased but Zach would recognize her because of her speech. Sort of reminds me of Chris Rock movie down to earth where he mistakenly died and came back as different men then met Asante and fell in love. Then in the end where they finally gave him another permanent body they erase his memory and tell him that he won’t remember none of his previous bodies or Asante. I think they guy said something like even when you’re not you, you’re still you. So basically he was saying even though his memory would be erased people would be able to tell it was him based on his mannerism or speech. And Asante caught onto a saying he mentioned to her, “everything is everything”, just like Zach recognized Maggie saying “jeepers”
