Hey! I'm retired as both an Army reserve components combat arms officer and as a school psychologist. All but one of my 22 years as a school psychologist were in poor urban districts with high crime rates and drug problems. In fact, Ernie Hudson as Principal Rolle was a dead ringer for the Superintendent of Schools at the district where I was working when this movie came out (and that guy ended up leaving under a cloud over allegations of nepotism and other corruption).

This movie and its sequels are the ultimate cathartic fantasy for any military combat arms veteran who has ever worked in a poor urban school system. Take my word for it!

Mad Tom: I wish you and some of your buddies in the service would become teachers. These days with the teachers unions running things students graduate w/o any real knowledge of civics, English ("yo" doesn't count), history, math. Maybe a little kick ass action is what's needed. I got a few paddlings in my time (do you youngsters even know what that is?)and it discourages you.

But most of the male teachers were wussies and none of the women were hot! But I digress...

reply

LOL... seriously? Do youngsters these days know what a paddling is? Can you say "child abuse"? How about "lawsuit"? There's no discipline in school anymore... teachers, principals, school districts - they all have to be careful not to hurt the students' fragile "psyches", or piss some pathetic-excuses-for-parents off... so instead, students are allowed to run roughshod all over teachers, principals, and school districts in general... what a load o' crap our school systems have turned into.

... the hardest thing in this world is to live in it...

the can scene is cool. the student got all pissed, haha! but yeah i just recently rewatched it and it still rocks! What happened to Tom Berenger? Haven't seen him much lately. He needs to make a comeback.

reply

Tom Berenger was in Inception. He's gained some weight but still looks pretty good.
