He was very good and had presence, but his first movie Platoon was probably his biggest and most prominent role, there should have been more!

Tom is actually very well known
He had a solid career. But having a lot of acting credits most certainly does NOT equal having a bigger (IE more successful) film career. I'm pretty sure the OP meant that he should have been a bigger "star" actor, with bigger roles, better films.
I guarantee you most people outside of film buffs have no idea who Tom is.
I still think he had a good career. He was also in Sniper, Hatfields and McCoys, Major League, etc. I am not saying he was as well known as George Clooney for example, but he did have a good career and is pretty well known. But I concur in that I wish he had bigger roles as I think he deserved them.
