Tom Berenger And The Sequels

Does anyone know if there was there any reason why Tom Berenger didn't come back as Shale in the sequels? Was it he was asked but turned it down? Was he even asked at all?

Trying to find out myself I think Substitute is awesome movie... Substitute 2 is okay and three is better then 2 haven't seen for 4 yet about to finish 2 and go watch for seen 3.. But I like Tom Berenger he played it well..

Mr. Berenger just realized that, at that point in film-making, sequels were a bust and did not help your career at all.

Too bad about Tom. He had the looks of a Hollywood hunk but after this, Sniper and Somebody to Watch Over Me, most of his next films were mediocre. His career went downhill and he never got the lead role anymore. Some flaws but this 1st SUBSTITUTE film was the best.

He got a Supporting Emmy for Hatfields and McCoys. He can still deliver.

I thought Treat Williams did ok in the sequels.

Me too! I thought he was great but I did miss Berenger's character. Both were pretty badass though.

I think they should do The Substitute 5 featuring both Berenger and Williams.

And on a side note, do you think The Substitute would make a good series? A 1 (or 2) hour (with commercials) show with each episode in a new school?

reply

I think it could work, though I would prefer something like Netflix, uncut and uncensored.

Hell yeah.
