What REALLY makes someone want to be a stripper?

You hear the same textbook stuff all the time, they were sexually abused, they have no self-esteem, they think it's the only way they can earn money blah blah blah blah blah.

I gotta tell ya, if I were female and had a body like Demi Moore (or even a body like "normal" strippers) and I could make more money doing lap dances than flipping burgers, especially if I didn't have parents to pay for college, I'm not so sure I wouldn't do it.

So I'm curious as to the REAL reasons someone decides to be a stripper. Anyone actually know any strippers personally?

Went to a club in Windsor, Ontario with my cousin and two of his friends. One of those friends was dating a stripper there, who also happened to have the largest breasts of the dancers (and completely natural).

She was a very nice person, not mal-adjusted or needy or anything. If you are good, you take down some very serious money (I think $90k qualifies as that, especially for someone in their early 20's), so a couple years of that makes for a very nice nest egg.

I've seen a couple move to Alaska for a couple years, taking up jobs that are subsidized by the state with an extra bonus to the salary (to encourage quality people to come up there, like teachers and doctors), to put those bonuses aside for a down payment on a nice home when they returned. A lot more work for less cash.

So you're saying that in her case, she was a totally normal, nice person who saw an opportunity to use her "assets" to make a lot of money and took it?

Sounds logical!

How is she doing now? Still stripping or did she save up and go to college?

I'd imagine that if one started stripping and started making all that money, planning to do it for only 2 or 3 years and then go to college, the temptation to say "Oh I'll just stay here for one more year" as opposed to turning off the influx of large amounts of cash to live the impoverished life of a typical college student is tough to resist!

Money, attention, desperation. Take your pick. Probably combo.

Probably because it's one of the simplest ways to make a ton of money due to the incredibly gullible market segment. The sexual abuse, low self-esteem arguments are not entirely unfounded, but to say that every woman does it because of those is a stupid, prudish argument.

All women have to do is take their clothes off, and pretend to be interested in a guy, and guy will fork over a ton of cash. That has to be one of the most brilliant marketing ploys ever thought up.

"We'll settle this the old Navy way. First guy to die loses."

drugs, poor, no parents, no education, no brain?

Money Money Money!

reply

Honestly, the fact that women discovered they could lord their sexuality over the less beautiful (and, in most cases, less intelligent) gender is one of the most brilliant things the sex has ever done.

Bravo, strippers!

reply

Yeah Right! A woman who smells like pussy, cigarettes and beer is more intelligent than men. We totally buy that!

Scotty, above, has got it right as far as many strippers working in England are concerned. Note I say "working in England" - the majority are foreign girls, notably Brazilians who have a relaxed attitude to sexual matters. Very few are mixed up or have had deprived or abused childhoods. For some it's an easy way of earning money - a reasonably attractive girl can take home £1,000 a week if she works full-time - and it's said that a quarter of girls have degrees. The Brazilians earn enough to buy at least one house back home.

Feminist groups go on about dancers being exploited - in fact it's them who are exploiting gullible men. Girls who work in strip pubs regard about 80% of the customers as idiots - yobs, saddoes and boors. In the clubs they meet a better -paid sort of person who is willing to cough up £500 an hour to talk to them and have a couple of close-contact dances; bankers-with-bonuses may be lavish spenders but can be very over-bearing and boring about about themselves.

Couldn't agree more.

It IS those things, but with sexual abuse, it does give them low self esteem so it's kind of redundant to bring that up.

No confident, self-respecting woman would give some creepy, horny, desperate guys (or any guys not her husband really) a strip tease or dirty pics to let them treat her like a worthless piece of meat with no greater purpose than to be ogled at my pervs.

I can't speak for everyone but the reason I mainly started was that I was working full time but was in debt and needed a job I could work nights.
I looked at restaurants to work on the bar but the money was not worth it to me to lose my nights and time to sleep.
I started working weekends at a club not to far from my house but the money was NOT as great as you're led to believe. Ultimately I found the nights fun but tiring and stopped working there after about 4 months to also focus more on my day job.
I'm still paying off my debt but feel much better physically not working nights and sleeping instead!

Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.

A reason is being a single mom and not getting hold support or any kind of other help and you want to give your kid the best of everything. Why are ppl so judgement all when it comes to strippers. They are all human beings just like you who do a job just like u some are putting themselves thru school, or are single moms like I mentioned others are doing t to get ahead in bills there are many reasons and just because someone Is a stripper doesn't mean they should be put down or treated badly. Don't ever judge because u never know if ur put in a certain situation what you might do never say never.

I once knew a young girl, around 21, who did some stripping. She was a gorgeous girl too! Probably one of the better looking ones than they typically get. She had long, wavy blonde hair, big beautiful brown eys and yes, an amazing body! She was working with me at the time and had given it up. She never told me how much she made but given her looks and body most guys would have paid her just to have her naked reading the phone book. Problem was this was in Memphis and many (if not 98%) of the clubs were seedy as hell, drugs were sold, along with prostitution. Cops were busting them all the time. I was glad she gave it up b\c she would have ended god-knows-where if she had continued it.

It beats working in fast food.
