The Ending

Hi people.

My tape ran out before the end. I've just seen the beardy guy from Tuscon tell Linda that he almost mowed down her husband when he's supposed to be dead and I'm guessing the woman who tells Allan to "move along, move along, move along" is the one he ends up falling in love with. And I gather that he as to choose between the old wife and the new woman and everyone says it's an odd ending. Usually I could dismiss it, but it's very moving and everyone seems very aerated about it, so can someone fill me in on the choice he makes?

Thanks a billion plus one.

The husband does fall in love with Pam Dawber's character and bonds with her family. The old wife (played by Tess) re-connects with her husband after the lawyer in the beginning of the movie has dinner at the hotel and recognizes the character played by Beau Bridges. Tess visits Beau and shows him a photo album of his old life. Initially he doesn't remember, but gradually it comes to him. He eventually (tearfully) parts with his new family to reunite with his old family. Leaving Pam Dawber's character and her two boys. Pam says that he can remain connected to her boys for support, but he has to leave her alone.
