Plot hole??

I enjoyed this Movie and the acting of confused Beau, but there is a major plot hole I can't get out of my head that doesn't make sense.

Alan was picked up by the police and taken to the mental hospital. When the next scene started it looked as if he'd just got there. This made sense since he's wearing the same clothes and the Doctor is doing what appears to be a preliminary interview with him. We are told however that he's been there for three days already!

What has happened during those Three Days and why hasn't he atleast been given some new clothes during this time?


In the Three Days that he's been at the hospital no one seems to have told him where he is, or they have told him and he just can't remember that they've told him. That's what I call selective memory loss! He doesn't know where he is or has been for the last Three days, but he still remembers the boy from the bus terminal?

It also bugged me that he escaped. Had he stayed the doctor might have figured out what happened to him and the wife would have found him. But that would have also ruined the last part of the Movie I guess...
