Other movies like this?

If you loved this movie, what others do you recommend for its fans?

I'll start with two suggestions:

I saw another Ellen Burstyn movie today. It's called Redemption (1980). She plays a woman who can heal other people. The story is completely different of course, but it has that same gentle feel to it.

Waitress (2007) is pretty good. It's not as meaningful as this movie, but you all might like it.

The Third Miracle, starring Ed Harris and Anne Heche. My personal favourite of all-time. Ed plays a priest who investigates miracles on behalf of the Vatican. His last "pronouncement" caused great damage to a parish and his guilt causes him to doubt his own faith. In this film, he is investigating the claim of another parish about a woman in the congregation who is said to have healing powers. Very profound portrayals, great drama, and in the end the movie doesn't do the usual sell-out that Hollywood does with religious themes.

Also try the Joy Luck Club, based on Amy Tan's brilliant best-seller. Not religious at all, but explores the relationships between four women who came to America from China and their American-born daughters for which they hoped so much, but things worked out differently. Heart-wrenching performances about cultural misunderstandings; bring your Kleenex.

I would highly recommend FRIED GREEN TOMATOES. Like SPITFIRE GRILL, the main characters are strong, dynamic women who form a friendship that empowers them to rise above the challenges in their lives. The film is also set in a small town with a colorful cast of characters and has moments of humor, suspense, nostalgia for a simpler way of life, and drama that is both uplifting and at times, heart-wrenching.

The War...my fav movie of all time! Besides maybe Stand By Me. From the director of Fried Green Tomatoes. Stars Elijah Wood and Kevin Costner. Makes me bawl every time. If you haven't seen it, do so....NOW! lol

Where the Heart Is...pregnant girl lives in WalMart. Gives birth and gets help from interesting small town characters lol. Funny, sweet and heart-warming. Great cast

With Honors...Brendan Fraser and Joe Pesci lol? No but seriously they make a great duo. Fraser plays a college student who loses his thesis and Pesci who plays a squatter basically holds his paper hostage. They barter- one page of the paper for every day of food/shelter. They argue like a married couple, share some laughs, learn alot about each other and life. Great movie

Steel Magnolias...like Fried Green Tomatoes

Big Fish...

Ruby in Paradise starring Ashley Judd, is a fantastic movie. It has a certain gentleness to it, just like Spitfire Grill.
