This marks the first time the longer Italian version has been released on DVD. The English language export version's audio and video quality are much better than all other releases.

But how do we know the transfer is better than the Italian 2-Disc?
"Previously edited outside of Italy, THE STENDHAL SYNDROME is now presented here in all its grotesque glory, remastered in High Definition under the supervision of cinematographer Giuseppe Rotunno (ALL THAT JAZZ, AMARCORD) from the original Italian 35mm interpositive, and loaded with exclusive new Extras in this 2-Disc Special Edition."
This could also be true about the Medusa Edition for all I know.
The Itallian transfer isn't that great, it's just beautiful compared to the Dutch and Troma transfers which were pathetic which says more about the bad transfers of the latter two than it does about the greatness of the former, but i should hold my tongue, i would pay big bucks to see Four Flies On Grey Velvet in such "pathetic" condition.

Well from watching great Dario Argento transfers such as the Scandinavian versions of Suspiria, Tenebre and Phenomena, etc., to watching the crappy transfer on this one, there is no doubt in my mind that the experience is very different... I would love to see this brilliant film in the quality transfer it deserves. So if the Italian transfer isn't that great, but better... Is this new 2-Disc coming out now even better, or the same? I NEED to know!
Trust me, it's gonna be a good transfer, you'll love it, as restored and cleaned up as you can get. If you have a surroudn system, it'll be worth it too cuase Medusa's surroudn sound is f ucked up, the rear channels are a bizare echo chamber for the center channel. I have yet to see it, but it appears it'll be on par with Suspiria's transfer cause it's been SUPERVERVISED by the cinemtopgrapher from the origonal negative!!

Yeah, I'll order it now... I just suspect that the supervised transfer is the Medusa one...you know? That this is just gonna be the American version of it. I was worried about the differences between the two because I had an order in for the Medusa version at xploitedcinema, but canceled it once I discovered this American one. Would like to buy both and compare the two, but I don't have that kinda money right now. :-p
It's not worth the money, just wait for it to come on DVD Beaver, they've reviewed the Itallian, Troma, and Dutch discs and I suspect within a month or two will have the new Blue Underground DVD. If you're not familar with DVD Beaver, they do screen shot comparisons, and pretty much reveiw everything you could want about tech aspects in the most detail as possible. When it comes on DVD Beaver i'll put in a direct link here.
