I've owned the soundtrack to this film since it was released. This may sound nuts to some people but I think it's one of the best albums I've listened to. Tom Petty is a genius and I think the album is fantastic! Just wanetd to see if anyone else agreed.
I totally agree! Being a huge fan of Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers) I bought the soundtrack even before I watched the movie (which I loved btw, even got the DVD), and it's just a brilliant album! Ranks well among Petty's greatest works. And yes, the guy is a genius! :D
This is Tom Petty's best album behind Wildflowers, and the most underrated in his catalogue. Walls is in itself the best song Tom Petty ever wrote. Couple that with Angel Dream and California, this album is a must buy. Let's be honest, without Tom Petty this movie is average at best. But with the soulful sounds of his gutar in the background, this movie becomes great. I cannot say enough about the greatness of this album.
I don't know about any lawsuit, but I seem to recall reading (back when the movie was still in theatres) that Petty "donated" the songs to help Edward Burns, still a struggling filmmaker running around the Sundance circuit; perhaps, if there was a suit, it was because there had never been any allowances made for the distribution of a soundtrack, or the terms were muddy as to how the proceeds should have been distributed?
All conjecture based on a cloudy recollection, FWIW
I agree. I generally don't like soundtracks because they are just music put in a movie. Not like songs that are actually written for a movie. (See "That's what friends are for"-Nightshift.)But this soundtrack was one of the few I bought. I love "Climb that hill." The only other soundtracks I bought were "200 Cigarettes", "Dumb and dumber" and "Garden State."
