I can't believe this movie dosen't have a better score???

Are my fellow male voters striking some form of revenge on Ed because he pulls such hot tail???

Ed Burn's She's the One is really not that great however I don't mind his homage to Woody Allen but his first film "Brothers McMullen was really good"

I liked the movie, but I argree. Out of the whole film there were only a handful of worthy lines and all were at the end.

Sorry, I watched this flick for the very first time last night, and thought it was pretty damn good....certainly enough to get me onto imdb today to read up on it! :) Class film with a nice straight story and good characters I actually cared about. Thank christ Ed Burns knows how to make a movie, coz everyone else seems to have forgotten.

I disagree that Edward Burns knows how to make a movie. I think he had a little bit of luck with "Bros. Mc." Which I thought had some clever observations, but was too long and too smug about itself to really be a great film. Otherwise his stuff is pretty standard. I just saw this a couple of nights ago and I didn't expect much. That said, I enjoyed it.

The family scenes with John Mahoney are touching and there's definitely some good interplay between Franny and Mickey, but everything else felt forced -- including Cameron Diaz's entire character and performance. Though I don't normally like Amanda Peet and she was pretty good here.

Can't really comment on Brothers as I aint seen it yet, but alot of folk say its stronger than She's The One. Films nowadays seem to rely so heavily on the abilities of a computer and some new fangled media to bring their stories to life. She's The One, didn't. At all. Not even a smidge! Or a smudge!
Just the simple basics of a good story and familiar (exception noted :) )characters. And, that's something nice to see. And Frank Vincent was inspired!!

Besides, you gotta give this bloke some credit. Was his second mainstream flick, which he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in. Thats some talent. Damn man, if I could do all that s^^t I wouldn't be doing what I do now! lol

reply

I give him credit for getting financing for the movie.

Most of the performances were good, but to me, the story felt forced and contrived.

I don't know that he's got the writing chops to make a poignant film. I'd like to see him direct somebody else's screenplay, though. I think he can direct.

watching the movie right now on tv... damn the acting really is bad, I'm really annoyed by it, it's just so not convincing...

I loved Cameron Diaz in this film. She did bitchy well and delivered a few great smack downs ... "frankly Francis you need the practice!". Plus I thought she looked fabulous.

I agree with the original poster. This is one of my favorite screenplays. Yes, not such a profound plot, but the writing is great and the characters have such depth. Ed Burns is genius. I thought the casting and acting was actually pretty good, except for the girl who plays Hope.

I, too, am surprised this movie is not scored higher.

I honestly thought the acting was crap. I Enjoyed the dialouge, but the acting of the 2 male leads was terrible. good thing this dvd comes in a 2 pack.

I really enjoyed this movie.
Gave it an 8.

i dont think its score does the film justice either. The interaction between the brothers and of them with their father are really funny, yeah the female characters aren't developed much, but the film isn't really supposed to be about them(if it is, then it isn't successful in that regard), its about the brothers and their father, and its entertaining and very funny, its also a very clever depiction of the relationship between the brothers- every scene they're in is funny!

This movie wasn't perfect, but I did enjoy it very much. I would have given it a solid 7.

At first when I saw previews for this, I thought it was going to be some stupid chick flick.A few years ago I finally watched it and thought it was really good 8/10.
