John Mahoney was brilliant

I loved him so much in this film. I appreciated the nod to Martin Crane and the 'Charles Brothers-esque' twist of the unseen wife. Totally made me smile every time he was on camera.

I hate to admit that I found the Burns/Bahns relation the most boring part of the film.

I agree about Burns/Bahns. I just watched THE BROTHERS MCMULLEN and she was wooden and boring as hell in that movie, too.

RE: Bahns..see "don't put your GF in your movie" thread. I am sure she is a lovely nice girl..but she is a horrible..HORRIBLE actress..yes wooden best describes her.

But John Mahoney..MAKES this movie. Funniest lines..so natural..."get your sister".. "C'mon Nancy.." OMG..he was so friggin funny and so organic in the role. One of my all time favorite actors.

You pipple mek my ass twitch

Yeah, Mahoney was awesome. Had to laugh every time he Addressed His sons with a female name. Not very PC, but funny as hell.

BTW, why was Mahoney's wife (Ed Burns' mother) never shown?

Mahoney has some of the best lines and while never looking a gift horse in the mouth, carries them off with both panache and a creaky sense of authority.

Mrs Fitzpatrick didn't need to be seen. The story is underpinned by the suggestion that the father has always had far more influence on the sons than the mother, so therefore his character quite literally dominates the screen, at the expense of the missing mum, who like Heather anyway, is off doing her own thing. 🐭
