was this a t.v. series pitch??

I thought it ended in the middle- to many loose ends--
is there a part two that I am missing??
Maybe it is one where you have to read the book first-
the New York end of things came to no conclusion at all-
and the last scene there leaves the implication of more to come-
disappointing

this movie wasnt a tv series pitch it was based off of a good book by louis lamour.

played like an unsold pilot to me.

I agree. It left the business with Morrissey unresolved. I read the book only once long ago and don't remember how it ended, but knowing L'Amour I was pretty sure that was going to end up being the actual climax of the story -- even before Morrissey found out Shaughnessy was in Kansas.

"It's a start" sounds exactly like unfinished business. Unless L'Amour planned on writing another book about Shaughnessy I don't believe the movie ends the way the book did.

thanks I may have to look for the book again- I did try - at the time I watched this - and I gave up on it-
I am sure it is still out there- to bad it was not a two parter- or had a sequel or something.!!!

This response is seven years late, but yes. This was a pilot that didn't pick up. I know because I was in this film. Originally I had been cast as the 'mystery' blond girl that lived at the whore house but wasn't a whore ( she was going to be developed later in the series as the love interest of Shaughnessy), but on the first morning of filming they booted me for Shawn Cady (who is a sweetheart!)who played it instead. Ah, crushed hopes and dreams..........I became one of 'the girls' at the Saloon and had a fun time filming anyway.
