Andy's Best Death Scene Ever

Agreed?

Can't agree with you more! Definately one of my favourite Hong Kong movies! One of the best "heroic bloodshed" films!

There have been many other death scenes since (Lau just loves to die in his films!) but none can top this one. Well, A True Mob Story's ending came the closest to topping his Shanghai Grand's, with Kenny G's saxaphones music in the background.

I thought his death scene in A True Mob Story was a tad melodramatic, but still surprisingly good film considering it was directed by Wong Jing!

Luv this film though. Everything from cinematography, costume, music & the violence presented on screen is fab. The only thing that let it down was THAT snake scene!

Hope they remaster the film and put it out on DVD because i think its one of those films that would look really nice if they re-touched it.

It's been out on dvd a long time ago. Where did you see it from? Tv? Vcd? or Cinema?

Just remembered there has been a little problem that puzzled me: when Andy Lau and Leslie shoot each other in that room near the end, you could clearly see Lau was hit in the shoulder and even a little blood spilt out over his dinner jacket, but then it turned out Leslie's gun was supposed to have loaded empty shells (Leslie had wanted Lau to kill him so as to pay his 'debt of love' with that girl Ching-ching), and thereafter Lau appeared to be not wounded at all (up until his killing he appeared all right, no medical attention needed!) So what happened with that gunshot in the beginning of the duel? Continuity problem, perhaps? But that would be too glaring wouldn't it? What do you think?

Also at the very end, I think it's open for us audience to think either Leslie would die - he closes his eyes just as the screen fades to black; or he lives on - just too exhausted that he closes his eyes?

I'm also baffled by that final showdown. Probably a continuity problem & maybe originally the andy lau character was suppose to die that way but then they changed it. Reminds me of The Killer when CYF shoots the bad guy's arm off but then you still see his arm in the next scene.

As for the leslie's supposed death, i think they leave it up to the viewers to decide on his fate although it seems as if he was dying 'cos he saw all those flashbacks (or were they?). Not sure 'bout that one.

I have a crappy VCD version of it but the film still looks pretty amazing. Wonder how good it looks on a DVD? And any other future re-releases?

I think Leslie's ammo was loaded with lower amount of gunpowder.

You basically see the lead bullet flattened on Andy's jacket, so it wasn't blanks.

This is risky business, and even if you load with less powder, it can still injure, which may explain the shoulder shot causing blood.

Of course, the thing is, Leslie's firearm is a semi-auto, so it requires a minimum amount of powder to cycle the firearm, while Andy's is a revolver, which doesn't really need a minimum to work.

They should have swapped the firearms between the two. And explained it as weak ammo.

I cannot believe you spoiled the movie for the ones who haven't seen it yet (myself included)!! Please don't put the movie ending on a subject line!

Enough with this spoiler nonsense. This board is for people who have SEEN that movie to write their views about it. Why come here at all if you have not seen it yet? Wise up!
