TV cops... gotta love 'em

After they interviewed Doug, the detectives say they need to go arrest Diane right away since there were phones in the juvenile center where Doug was going. Apparently they didn't want her tipped off.

So then they go to the school pulling in with lights and sirens!

Then they do the same thing later when they go to her house.

I have to laugh when I see stuff like this... just like when the TV cops are going to arrest someone and instead of walking up to them, they call out to them from 50' away so the person can run away with a head start.

I'll give the movie credit for the scene in the school hallway (after the cops pull up as noted above) where the administrators are getting in the way demanding to see a warrant. Stuff like that does happen.

Well, in real life they did arrest her at school, which was controversial at the time. Even if they had their lights and sirens on - which I can't remember from when I saw it on the news back then - where would she have gone if she was at the school? And Jefferson is really small - they could have easily chased her on foot.
