shareI know, it was good film about a very sad story.
shareCan you tell me if there is a book written about this story? I watched the movie on LMN today...it is so sad...I felt for Reuben so badly...it is a tragic story...I just wondered if there is a book written about it...with pictures of the real characters and such. Thanks
shareDo you have any info on the real story? I always wonder how accurate it is.
Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!
Aside from the fact that quaint small town Jefferson looks NOTHING like the grafitti city displayed in the movie.....it's fairly accurate. And at the same time - not so much.
I grew up in Fort Atkinson - one town away from Jefferson. I moved the year of - or the after - the events in the movie. I remember the posters hanging up on gas stations asking for information on Ruben's killer.
Here's something I thought you might find interesting....

There is an A&E "American Justice" special about it that is being played today (7/18/07). Here's a link to the episode: http://www.aetv.com/listings/episode_details.do?episodeid=195863
I'm not saying that she is innocent but the show is interesting because they have interviews with Diane and she's so different from the character that Ann-Margaret portrayed. It's interesting to compare it to the dramatic version of such a tragic story.
Yeah we know that. It doesn't take a genious to figure it out, because number one it says "the diane borchardt story" plus it says "based on a true story".
shareDon't let her sweet exterior fool you. She was probably acting. Anyone who hires killers is unstable in my book.

Yeah.
I re-watched this movie ~ hadn't seen it for years.
And then, right after, I watched the American Justice show about the real case.
One thing: I was surprised by how much the movie held to the facts as portrayed on American Justice (one little detail though: I believe she was a teacher's aide and hall monitor, as opposed to a teacher-teacher).
And, I was especially paying attention to her interview: she hides her 'tells' well, but her narcissism *does* shine through (e.g., how she refers to herself, her life, her 'accomplishments' throughout the interview is a dead giveaway).
"Much communication in a motion, without conversation or a notion"
Was watching ID and thought the story sounded familiar when they said Ruben had been shot by a shotgun in the basement. Peter Coyote immediately came to mind in this movie so I got on Imdb to check it out. Never a Ann-Margaret fan so I couldn't remember who played the Diane role. I've seen this movie more than once and always thought it was so sad because Ruben seemed like a good guy who didn't deserve to even be married to her crap. She deserved to die in prison. Poor kids suffered from her selfish actions.
