Who thinks that Olive Martin was actually guilty?

The ending to the BBC adaptation to the Sculptress was purposely ambiguous and chilling. I suspect that Olive Martin did it. Rosalind virtually forced that mentally ill woman to confess to the murders, planting the suggestion in her mind etc. Please discuss. Anyone?

In the book, the end is open, too. It's a half/half chance.

We've got what it takes to take what you've got!

i've shared this video with many, many friends who'd never heard of it (i guess they're not the "masterpiece theatre" types). all agree on two things: it's a great yarn; and, olive did it. that moment of eye contact between olive and hal at the end says it all.

Yea, i kinda think that Olive might have done it too now, but i don't know for sure.

I agree with all those who feel Olive was guilty all along, but extremely talented as a manipulator. Thinking back over the movie, the flashbacks of the crime show the dementia-stricken neighbor lady pounding on the window saying "Olive, look what you've done", and another time the evil tart Amber spitefully taunting Olive, with a stabbing immediately thereafter. I think these are flashbacks to what actually happened, as opposed to the narrative Roz wants to believe. The entire movie was extremely well executed, and chilling. I do agree that some of the subplots were a bit much, but they did add some interest to the story - made Roz a more complete character and Hal almost a tragic figure, who in the end prevails over the sinister developer. That ending scene says it all when Olive catches Hal's eye, almost as if to say "neener neener." Great film! It's getting harder and harder to watch the Hollywood productions with the Brits doing such a fabulous job.

I saw the film for the first time recently and that look at the end says it all. Have to read the book, but the flashback scenes with that poor neighbor pounding on the door seem to indicate Olive's guilt. Also Roz was in need of psychological help too, because she was manic when forcing the confession. I think Olive had a fixation almost a jealous love for Roz, and if I were Hal, and after the "look", I would watch out!

Of course she was guilty of the murders!!!!!!!!

The way that she just stood there totally unconcerned and oblivious when covered in blood at the scene of a massacare says it all. She was a psychopath!!!!

The idea that a Court of Law would overturn a murder verdict simply because an obnoxious writer had bullied a mentally unstable elderley woman suffering from amnesia into giving indications that she had committed the murders is just too ridiculous for words.

The flashbacks indicate Olive did it. If I were the boyfriend is watch out.

The ending was farcical. It would never get to court, not in England anyway.
When I saw that Christopher Fulford had a lead role for once I was pleased, as he is a good actor, but surprised, as he invariably gets roles where his trademark lopsided gawp of horror hits the spot. So in the last scene I was proved right, he was only hired for the gawp, and the whole plot was engineered so it could happen.
Excellent production of a bungled script.
