other movies like this?
any recommendations?
shareYo, I know your post was about six months ago and am aware you may never come back to this page (in which case I suppose I'm kinda talking to myself here), but I would recommend both "Brazil" (dir. by Terry Gilliam), "Naked Lunch" (dir. by David Cronenberg) and "How to Get Ahead in Advertising" (dir. by Bruce Robinson)...incidentally, as with "Schizopolis", these are all available in Criterion versions.
"Now... where was I?" - Leonard Shelby
Brazil is an excellent recommendation, as would be any Monty Python venture, particularly "Meaning of Life". Gilliam's "12 monkeys" would also be good. I would also say that anyone who can appreciate schizopolis will certainly enjoy Lynch's "Inland Empire" as well. I would say Gilliam's movies are more visually and spiritually parallel to Schizopolis while Lynch has more similarity philosophically, mainly in the postmodern approach.
Some more reserved suggestions:
Domino - Tony Scott is vastly underrated, and the shifting narrative viewpoints of Domino introduces some avant garde methodology to the a-list crowd.
Syriana - This film has a narrative, and it takes some effort to extract its intricacies. A film that rewards the attentive viewer - Soderbergh was Exec Producer.
The Game - Fincher's "Pay attention the first time, because it will never be that good again" puzzler is great. If the idea of questioning your own reality is appealing, go here.

also check out luis bunuel and federico fellini. look at the influences of the contemporary directors too. then try to look for something new.
shareA liiiittle late in replying, but I thought of Lars von Trier when watching this (like The boss of it all)
shareI also just watched Get To Know Your Rabbit from 1972 and thought that it's a bit similar to some of De Palma's early comedies.
