Why is this movie so popular?

I know what your thinking... In what dimension is Santa with Muscles a popular movie? But I'm speaking in relative terms.
This movie inexplicably passed the 2000 vote mark recently. That's more than double any other movie Hogan has starred in (I'm not counting cameo's like Rocky III). Why have so many more people watched THIS movie rather than other Hogan fare? It's just as bad as the rest, recieved just as little publicity when it came out (probably less than No Holds Barred or Suburban Commando), and was just as disasterous at the box office.
What is special about it to be distinguished in this way by IMDB users?

I can tell you why this movie though incredibly horrible was in some bit popular. It's because it has Hulk Hogan in it and there are many avid wrestling fans out there who still worship the ground he walks on hence the name of Hollywood Hulk Hogan. He can't act, but because he has been such a hero to many kids and adults alike throughout his career wrestlingwise not actingwise, people will overlook the fact that he can't act and watch just because it has what many have deemed a legend in the mat game. It is their hero and they have come to worship sorta thing. Anyway most wrestlers should take a hint and stick to what they know which is wrestling and only wrestling.

reply

I understand what your saying, but I was talking about the popularity of this movie amongst other Hogan movies, it has more than double the votes of his next most popular one Mr. Nanny. I just don't see why this piece of HulkaCrap has attracted more attention than other HulkaCrap.

reply

well, as a wrestling fan who has always hated hogan, i can honestly say i never saw this movie for him. personally, it was for ed begley, jr.

reply

Wow, I didn't realize Ed Begley Jr. had such a big fan base, but I guess that might account for the extra popularity of this movie.

reply

i have seen all of hogans films....yes im showin off...dont feel sorry for me....there is nothing great about them but there is just something about them that i like and find funny i mean mr nanny he wears a tutu(spelling?) surburban commando when hes saying "arrgh stabilize, stabilize" while frantically preseeing a stabilize button while his ship is spinning in a perfect circle in space, lol oooooh the cheesyness,

anyhoo i have seen them all apart from this one doe anyone know where i can get a copy? DVD/Video no matter?

thanks

call me sad....least ill be enjoying my movie when you do :-D

reply

if its because of ed begly than how come eveyone's talkin about Hulk Hogan?
Personally I checked the IMDB's bottom 100, thats where ifound this crap

reply

Ed Begley, Jr? I think not!!

No many Clint Howard films are very highly rated, not just this one. Apollo 13, Cocoon, Splash... many others.

Clint grew a cult following since his appearance as Balok in the Original Star Trek series which redeemed him from his Leon character on the Andy Griffith Show. Ever since this his brother has been riding his coat tails

reply

Great title. Rubbish film.

Its that man again!!

reply

The very title of the movie is an abomination and an an assault on every layer of your brain. And I bet it does a number on your spinal cord. "Santa with Muscles" - can't you feel your own nervous system rebelling just by reading those three words? "Say it isn't so!" your cerebral cortex exclaims. "Must close eyes and move body from the screen!" says the cerebellum.

Yet, for some of us, some part of our brain - probably the stem - says "hmmm... Let's take a closer look!" So, we see a title like "Santa with Muscles", and take a closer look. "Oh, gee, a thug gets amnesia, begins to think he is Santa Claus and fights bad guys in a Santa suit..." ... and it stars Hulk Hogan.

A horrid title, horrid plot and a horrid actor: A trifecta of anti-perfection. Yet still... after seeing it, I can still say "I've seen worse."

reply

I can't believe this movie exists. Do any of you think I outta check it out for humor sake or to appreciate all other movies?

reply

This movie is more popular than the other Hogan movies because the title is so damn bad.
While I haven't seen any of the HulkaCrap movies, I HAD to check out any gem with a title like 'Santa With Muscles'.

reply

the title is just cool... when that catches your eye and you find out it has hulk hogan in it, how can you pass that up.. lol hahah

reply

There's a popular wrestling site wrestlecrap.com, which shows the worst in wrestling. The person who runs this site wrote a hilarious review of this movie and asked everyone to come here and vote for it.

reply

That probably explains it, thanks.

The movie has gotten a lot of publicity as being one of the worst christmas movies ever, right up there with "Jingle All the Way." (although "Surviving Christmas" and "Christmas With the Kranks" give them both runs for their money.)

The Boston Globe printed an article about the movie, then pointed out that only one video store in the entire Boston area had a copy, and it hadn't been checked out since 1998. This little bout of publicity for this atrocity of a film may have helped it, because negative publicity is better than no publicity at all.

Being a holiday themed movie made this Hulk Hogan venture more notorious than his equally bad "Mr. Nanny" or "Suburban Commando."

reply

better watch Miracle On 34th Street!

reply

Another Reason for so many votes? www.wrestlecrap.com had a review of the movie, and wrestlign fan/author R.D. Reynolds gave the exact web site to vote this piece of crap a 1 and put it at the worst. It was #2 for a while (Manos was 1,) looks like it has dropped a bit.

reply

This movie is so popular because it speaks to all generations. Hogan's acting skills in any roles are phenominal. The deep meaning originally phrased by Frances Bacon become apparent in every shot of this film. Man is innately good, and Hulk Hogan brings this aspect to the screen nicely. He shows that there is hope in the world, by portraying someone with an altered perspective, and the effect is has on thier lives. This film inspires people to get out and make a difference. It should be in the top 250, not the bottom 100...

reply

There have been quite a few valiant efforts to respond to my original post and explain the popular appeal of this movie, but none have really succeeded in cutting to the heart of the matter.... until now. To have watched this movie as many times as I have and not picked up on the Frances Bacon connection is downright embarrassing. Once you've had it explained to you, it becomes so painfully obvious that you can't help but feel stupid. Atleast I can sleep easy now knowing that this little quandry has finally been put to bed.
many thanks.

reply

Ok,I'm not a philosopher and I don't plan on being one but isn't that what Hulk Hogan always urged when he wrestled all those matches in the '80s and '90s to go out and make a difference or did I miss something? Leprishunter, you do make sense and in no way am I cutting you down.

reply

ITS NOT POPULAR!!! ITS JUST DOWNRIGHT BAD

I don't know what you chowderheads are complaining about. My Hulk Hogan DVD collection is growing at incredible speeds! I've already got 3, and I think next week I might have 12.

You people don't appreciate the pure genius that is a Hulk Hogan movie! His acting is perfect. The plots in his movies are inspiring. I'm a Hulkamoviemaniac!

reply

here here here here

this is the ultimate movie

The 90's very a golden age of movies with cheesy action and cheesier one-liners

this is the hulkamaniacs Commando

reply

This movie was so bad, that... okay it's bad to watch but I try to watch it all the way through every year. It's free on Comcast. The only thing I'm wasting is time which lately I've been good at.

"We are going to DIE!"

reply

This movie is PURE FUN
Don't see it alone, it'll be very very boring, but with some friends it's awesome. Come on ! Santa !!! Hulk Hogan !!!
That's why I gave it a 10

Omae wa mo shinderu

reply

I've never even heard of this movie... :P

reply

-_- @ me being one of the few who actually saw this in the theater. I was young. :(

reply

Maybe it's so popular because it's so awesome. (Answer: Yes)

Did you think about that?

I mean c'mon, any movie where a motorized santa claus throws hulk hogan off a building gets an A+ from me. Heck yeah!

reply

A film has never been so eloquently expressed as in this classic of modern cinema, this giant amongst movies, the paragon of intelligence, fortitude, and decency. To call this movie a triumph is like calling Shakespeare mildly successful. Every move it attempts, it pulls off. A cinematic masterpiece. Bravo!!

LOL

reply

At least this movie doesn't have Ben Allfeck in it.

reply

I think a reason that this movie has so many votes is because R.D. Reynolds told fellow Crappers to vote a 1 on this movie even if they didn't see it. I think if you haven't seen it than you should not vote for it. That's how I feel, but it only proves that the voting is a joke. I think the days of movies having an under 2 rating are almost over. Manos almost has a 3 rating. WTF

reply

That's easy. It's because it's featured on www.agonybooth.com at http://www.agonybooth.com/santa_muscles/ . That place gets, like, 50 million hits a second.

Okay, maybe I'm exagerrating their hits, but it's also why Clonus is so relatively 'popular' (now, anyway).

reply

Well, between the wrestlecrap.com site/R.D.Reynolds write up, and the Boston Globe thing, there'd be an increase in viewers, sure.
But another reason may be the fact that is has Mila Kunis (not to mention Don Stark) from That 70's Show. That show itself has quite a fan base, plus it was like one of Kunis' frst roles before she was popular.
That could've contributed. Also, the general public tends to like bad movies (or at least go see/rent them).

- Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

reply

I gurantee you half of the people that voted haven't seen it, just read the title and saw the lead.

It's like the hype "Snakes on a Plane" is getting right now.

reply

thanks for stating the obvious

y'all wanna buy a sqerwl

reply

I've actually seen it when they played it on TNT when a company called WCW still existed in the late 90s. I thought it was bad, but in an almost hilarious manner.

reply

This movie is popular only because brutus "the barber" beefcake played the sumo goon!

Eyema souper jeanyus!!!
