Why was there a phone in the bathroom ?

And why didn’t anyone remove it so that Mason couldn’t use it?

reply

High end hotels often had phones in bathrooms. My wife and I have been in such rooms a number of times when we were able to get free upgrades (generally because we were on a committee of some kind). Most of them had phones in the bathroom.

I've seen them as well.

The question remains .... why?

For convenience. People who can afford such rooms don't want to have to run to another room to get the phone. And before you say a hotel room isn't that big, those kinds of rooms are. They are designed for luxury, and to give the occupant space for parties and informal business meetings. The ones my wife and I have been fortunate enough to upgrade too could hold, safely, anywhere from ten to thirty people.

The events we attend usually have "room parties," intended to promote connections and discussions. Some of them can hold more.
