Half of a Great Movie

I'm referring to the half which takes place at the court and particularly any scene with Fanny Ardant in it. She is a wonderful "bad girl" and compared to her, Judith Godreche (the good girl) comes across as a zombie and any scene with her in it brings the movie to a screeching halt. Oh, well.

Was she the one what played a head of cheese in "The Goats of Flabberg"?

Nothing exists more beautifully than nothing.

reply

yeah, judith godreche sucked and her whiny little voice and her character, too. fanny was fantastic. but i think in both cases it related to the parts the women were given as much as their acting. mathilde was such a stereotype. so, they make her arrogant and a bit clueless to keep her from being perfect, but she's still "beautiful, smart guy that protagonist needs" and she's the flaw of the movie.

I must agree that the site of her gorgeous breasts threatening to spill out of her bodice brought ME to a screeching halt. Phwoar!

reply

Judith Godreche is a terrible actress, she has nothing on Fanny Ardant.

reply

For me is a very good movie in all respects.

judith godreche's and fanny ardant's characters represent different Frances (obviously), so who would expect the same type of actresses to be cast in those roles?
fittingly, too: ardant is an queenly icon of french cinema (right there with deneuve and moreau); godreche, an up-and-coming french beauty whose pouty, but spirited earthiness is perfectly suited for "mathilde" (and "gregoire").
i don't understand why judith godreche's career has developed as i would have thought it would after such a role, though.

There were a few unnecessary scenes but it's unfair to say that it's half of a great man, I guess Godreche's whiny lifeless little voice was redeemed by her voluptuous beauty ...

"Darth Vader is scary and I The Godfather"
