It was a good western, not the best, but very good. Harris and Madigan worked very well together -real-life husband/wife. Harris is very effective when he isn't shouting, and he wasn't in this movie. However, he's good when he shouts too as in Glengarry Glen Cross. My favorite line in ROTPS -"Lassiter, roll the stone!!!"

It is a gem of a film.
Ed Harris is the film....Robin Tunney and Henry Thomas were weak.
I do NOT know why Ed Harris put up with a Robert Weissler either...so many great Western actors out there still...but this guy???
I gave it a 10.Go to Moab before you die.

Who is Robert Weissler?

He meant Norbert, the guy who played "Tull". I read the book about six months ago and the movie was pretty faithful to the book, except I don't remember them being trapped forever. I think they got out OK. I'll have to recheck.

Hey folks,

While this may not be my favorite western film, it is right up there with maybe a dozen others. To tell the truth, it is difficult for me to pick a single favorite. Lonesome Dove is usually my first thought, but then I think of Open Range, Butch & the Kid plus a few more, and then I really have a hard time picking just one favorite.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Yeah, this IS a "good" Western but ... with Shane, Unforgiven, High Noon, Silverado, and many others out there, I don't think I'd pick it as "best". But that's what's good about this world ... we can all have our own opinions!

Well, it's right up there near the top. Definitely in my Top 20, maybe my Top 10.
