Laughably obvious this was not Texas!

There are Joshua Trees visible all over the place. It's obvious it's somewhere in California, South west Nevada or Arizona.

It was filmed in Palmdale (California). I was on set.

reply

Yeah, I see it in the filming locations now. I wonder why they bothered setting it in Texas.

reply

Texas has a reputation for stories about people like this...

Enrique Sanchez

reply

Directors frequently do that with movies set in New Mexico ~ the setting will be New Mexico but they film it somewhere else.

reply

Not that funny for people not recognizing a Joshua Tree.

reply

And what in the world was that deputy wearing on his head? It looked like some kind of fairy hat from the coast. Texas DPS officers wear cowboy hats.

reply

John Wayne made a movie where he's suppose to be in Vietnam. Lot's of pine trees in Vietnam. It was actually Georgia.

reply

I don't know enough about the US fauna and flora to know this was obviously not filmed in Texas. But it's a movie, so I generally do not expect that it is shot where they pretend it is shot. There are probably about 15 states where they could shoot a movie and if you tell me it's Texas, I'd probably except it. The rest of the world really doesn't know if there are this kind of trees in Texas or not.

reply

Haha, exactly.

It was far from being "laughably obvious" to anyone who isn't from California (or familiar with it). I'm from Idaho and I have only the vaguest idea what a joshua tree looks like. I probably wouldn't be able to recognize one.

As a Northwesterner, what I always find obvious is when the movies try to pass off Canada as Oregon or Wyoming (such as Brokeback Mountain or Say It Isn't So). Still, I wouldn't expect people from the East - or even the Southwest - to be able tell the difference.
