Surely the way it ended is slightly worse than how the first version of events were.
In the first chain: Wife dead and Frank in prison if she called the cops rather than go back.
In the actual chain: Red van guy dead, petrol station guy dead, Frank dead. It's a complete bloodbath.

shareBut in the final ending, the three "bad guys" all died. Still weird the wife is arrested, maybe we are supposed to think she will get off pretty easy. She killed her husband in self-defense, although there were no witnesses.
shareThe trooper had to arrest her, as the 'last man standing', and we are left to hope/believe that she will be acquitted once the ballistics come back, the 'special chips' are found, etc.

Frank didn't want to kill her. He was holding the gun on her so that she wouldn't kill him and trying to talk her out killing him. (Unless he was out of bullets?) Still, he was an abusive *beep* and it wasn't good for her to be with him....
