"Rasputin--Dark Servant of Destiny" is such a cheesy title for this

First off--I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and especially Alan Rickman's performance. I have a keen interest in the history of this period, and I thought it did an excellent job of recreating the times and people.

Having said that, I would like to ask: what's with the cheesy title they gave this movie? It's sensationalistic and trite, and seems more appropriate for a movie about Dracula. It was shown on HBO with this title, and the DVD from Amazon is also listed with it.

They should have called it simply "Rasputin". Do I suppose some marketing company thought it wouldn't sell, unless it was given this potboiler and meaningless title? What do others think?

Yeah, it was cheesy, but it's still a good movie. Rickman's performance was over the top. But he didn't have the weird eyes like the real Rasputin did. In Nicholas and Alexandra, THAT guy was Rasputin!
