Rasputin's Letter

Ok, I know it was post early but I have been disturbed by it. Who wrote it actually? Was it Rasputin himself, one of the Bolsheviks or his female fans?

reply

Do you mean the letter Alexandra reads near the end, after Rasputin's murder? That's a forgery, written after the death of the imperial family, though I'm not sure by whom.

reply

How do you know that letter was a forgery? Though some have speculated the letter was written by Rasputin's personal secretary following the assassination, there is no conclusive proof either of its authenticity or its forgery.

reply

There was a letter Rasputin wrote before his own death, I don't know whether or not it was mentioned in this film, for I've not seen it yet.

"I write and leave behind me this letter at St. Petersburg. I feel that I shall leave life before January 1...If I am killed by common assassins, and especially by my brothers the Russian peasants, you Tsar of Russia, have nothing to fear, remain on your throne and govern, and you, Russian Tsar, will have nothing to fear for your children, they will reign for hundreds of years in Russia...if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family, that is to say, none of your children or relations, will remain alive for more than two years. They will be killed by the Russian people...You must reflect and act prudently. Think of your safety and tell your relations that I have paid for them with my blood. I shall be killed. I am no longer among the living."

Pray, pray, be strong,

think of your blessed family.

Grigori "

The spooky thing about this is that all above became truth.

"Roses are green. Violets are gray. I'm dead and colourblind."

reply

But did Alexandra believe the letter?

reply

Judging by her shocked expression after finding out that Prince Felix Yusupov was involved in the murder, I'd say she believed the letter (particularly in the movie, you can see her just finishing the letter before she heard the news of her relatives' involvement )

...also , if it's a forgery or not is left out for debate - we can see Rasputin starting to write it , then, he receives a phone call from Prince Yusupov who's asking him to come over (the reason being to relive his wife's headache) but we don't see him finishing his letter ....

Well...guys... so long!
Thanks for all the good ideas that you've shared here.

It seems these Message Boards will be forever deleted by his majesty IMDb, without any regard to its mere users.
Nice to be talking to you here, the most constructive part of a film page...
(the Review part was the worst, with all the too many ego-filled, pretentious "reviews")
