When Frank gets pissed . . .

. . . and throws the box at the dude on the bike it made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe.

This is a really excellent film despite it having no redeemable characters.
The cinematography and ending are sublime.

I'm surprised it took a film like Bronson to make NWR more popular considering the quality of his early films.

reply

Yes, funny scene. I had completely forgotten about that.

I don't know, NWR's English languaged movies aren't supposed to be that good. I've only seen Bronson, which I liked okay, but nothing special. FearX and Valhalla Rising shouldn't be that good. Still, a great director.

reply

FearX is very misunderstood. I personally didn't enjoy it very much, but it had this strong Hitchcock feel that was interesting.

Valhalla Rising was a wonderful film, but again, I as sure it will be very misunderstood too. Saw it twice last week and I am still thinking on it. Usually the sign of a good movie..for me at least.

reply

I'd probably like it, too. It's just what I heard, but as you say, it could be because people just misunderstand it.

The problem, at least here in America, is that we tend to line up like sheep at the local movie-plex for whatever idiotic dreck the movie studios THINK we want to see. This is especially true for those of us that don't live in Chicago, NY, or LA where at least you have the opportunity to pursue something different.

It's like that here as well, people mostly seem to see whatever big blockbuster is up at the moment, though in places like Copenhagen (like your big cities) there are other possibilities.

Now, we get the (big) Danish movies, of course, but we don't get any French or Asian cinema. Or anything from other than here and the US, really. It's come to the point where most people, despite also reading subtitles for US movies, don't like to watch things in French or Spanish, or whatever. I don't get it.

I just watched Valhalla Rising recently, and I thought it was great. Very beautiful and interesting.

I would have had to driven 5 or 6 hours to Dallas TX to see Valhalla Rising, for instance.

reply

Yeah, it's a shame. Because a lot of people across the country would probably like to see it, but they can't, really.

I don't even think Valhalla Rising showed here, again, except in a few places, and that's even one of our own directors.

reply

Guys, distribution is very expensive for small films
And usually theaters only give you one week, after that, the film is gone
