Is Frank stupid??

If a dangerous criminal wanted me to pay him 50k in 24 hours I would be FREAKING OUT, doing whatever i could to either get the money or get the hell out. NOT hanging out w/ my gf or some club. And, after escaping death or mutilation while shooting one of his henchmen in the leg that criminal calls me and says I only have to come over pay 10k and we can be friends again, I would NOT believe him!

That's really the only part of the film i didn't like, Frank believing everithing would be okay if he showed up to milo with whatever money he had left at the end. Especially after his encounter with Radovan

When people are desperate, their minds play tricks on them. He wanted to believe everything was going to be okay, even though he knew it wasn't...

reply

That's all I could come up with... but he wasn't that stupid the rest of the movie, even while stressed. He must have known they would kill him.

reply

He was definitely deluded in thinking it would be okay if he showed up with what he had.

I like the end where *SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS*
his girlfriend realises that if he takes the money to the boss he'll be dead, so she nicks it and does a runner for his own good. So long as he stays away from the people he owes money, he might stay alive.

He does realize at the end though that he's probably done, pictures Radovan laying out the plastic on the floor. Why would his girl think that he's dead, she took their money, they'd then be after her if he gets caught by them finally and says she took it. It wouldn't make sense she took it for that reason, they could be after her as soon as they catch up with him and he tells them she took off with what he had.

I wouldn't say Frank is stupid, he's down when needed, especially when he goes into the gym to rob Milo's future son in law.

in pusher 2 milo tries to get some info from mads mikkelsen and kusse kurt about the whereabouts of frank, so i assume he was not actually that stupid to take milo's ridiculous offer of payment in the end.

It's not a matter of stupidity, but of ability. Even if he was stupid enough, in the end Frank had no money to give to Milo; Vic took his money and ran.

I don't understand why people are so sensitive that others need to wrote Spoilers on a 20 years old movie, when they should be like everybody else who has seen it and want to talk about what they have seen.

he was sniffing coke the whole time. he was doped up. so his decision making wasnt exactly on point

They changed the ending. The original movie ended much more suddenly and jarringly.

In the original, the lead character is told that if he wants to live he will need to bring everything he has right then. That it's his only chance. That they have a good relationship and everything is going to be okay. And he tells his girlfriend he is going to do it, she looks at him as if he's nuts and she nicks all his money and runs off. He's left with no money looking dazed and wondering what the hell just happened.

It's a really jarring ending, but I think the suddenness of it works really well. In this remake they seem to be spelling things out so carefully that the lead protagonist just comes off as stupid. The clarity of the scene makes it seem like the protagonist is thinking with a clear head and has thought things through rationally. In the original it's much more obvious that he is running out of time and is prepared to accept the easiest solution he can.

I don't get it why he didn't try and sell the car earlier, I think it was a BMW which looked pretty new and he would get way more then 50 000 for it.

Bluesdoctor, no one says you have to care about Frank. It's fairly offensive of you though to say you don't care about people because you consider them to be ugly.

The true american way to watch a film. :)

Who cares about a story-line? Just as long as Leonardo di Caprio is starring...

reply

ditto, authentic hollywood flick fan for sure. Reality sucks huh?

An accountant? Wtf? In my country the accountant are always good dressing and shaving, like the lawyers.

No need to rag on Kim. Just dont watch films. Problem solved.

The reality is a vast majority of criminals are stupid.

No cash here!! Here, no cash!!! Cash, no!!!! Robbo? No Cash!

reply

False. It has nothing to do with being smart or clever. It depends on morals, social situation, desperation or lack of vision. Some smart people seem drawned towards illegal situations, while some are criminals simply because it pleases them.

Tell your brother he's on my to-do list, right after 'inserting needles into my cock'.

reply

It depends on the type of crime, naturally. A white-collar criminal will be smarter than the average person simply by virtue of being a white-collar worker in the first place.

Still, low-IQ people are at a higher risk of becoming criminal. Some things to which a lower IQ contributes include:
- Higher chance to drop out of school;
- Lower chance to earn a high salary;
- More likely to get caught when committing crime.

Furthermore, outlaw behaviour such as substance abuse or head traumas lower IQ as well.

I wouldn't call him stupid. But he ain't smart.

I think it's pretty obvious.

A super old comment but what the heck. Have you wondered when you watch someone play a game like a football or even chess, you see good moves clearer, or complaining when a player makes a mistake, well I do. In reality people do a lot of mistakes when under pressure. He was IN "the game", his decision to go back was rushed and desperate one, but at the end you see him staring into nothingness like he's contemplating his decision and imagining what would've happened if he'd go.

p.s. no he's not smart, nor dumb.

reply

i'd have to be on the drugs to keep watching it . nothing happened except drug deal for the first hour , i didn't like any character enough to care what happened .

reply

I've never understood people who feel the need to "like" a movie character to like the movie. All you need to do is "imagine" being that character, imagine going through what they are going through.

Do you lack empathy for everyone, or just people you "don't like"?
