Why is it rated so low??

This film is excellent. I really enjoyed it.

Because its an all black cast. Gotta learn imdb voters are very anti-black cast. Its the sad truth.

reply

Couldn't have said it better.

reply

Honestly, I've noticed that a lot of movies featuring black casts, whether they are excellent or just stereotypical garbage, are ranged in the 5s or lower. Pretty sad.

reply

I thought that the film itself was rather good.

reply

Beg your pardon, I'm very white. I don't even like to call myself white. Why do people have to put a color on people? Jesus is probably not white. Where he grew up at...look at most of the people's color, its NOT white! :-) I'm just happy being a Christian!!! Color don't matter to me (Moses was married to a "black" woman!) We are ALL created by God and we are ALL God's children whom He loves!

I absolutely love this movie. The cast was amazing and it had a light, breathy atmosphere to it.

reply

Because its a remake of an old film (The Bishops Wife-1947). People tend to hate remakes.

reply

I love this movie, too.

reply

Partly because some people don't know how to rate a movie. Read the review on the first page. It's a good review, she really liked it, and gave it 4 stars.

That's why I don't respect the ratings on here. So many are ridiculously high or low.

And please don't play the tiresome race card about everything in the world. Give it a rest.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

Because it's an all black cast? Be real, try the fact that it's a sub-par rehashing of a wonderful holiday film. Grant and Niven are phenomenal and cannot be outclassed in this poorly written remake.

reply

Well I think Tyler Perry movies keep playing to their own stereotype. "Preacher's Wife" was a film where the cast happened to be black. It wasn't one of these cheap looking "This is a black person movie" kind of things. Even the music in those trailers is used over and over. Check out this trailer I recently sat through
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c65YzAMmUx4

Tell me that wasn't dumb looking and stereotypical.

I just sat there and watched "Preacher's Wife". It wasn't about "Ooh we all black". It was like watching 'Cosby Show'. You knew it, but it wasn't the point

reply

Let's not play the race card here!

Also, I think the movie was awesome. Have seen "The Bishop's Wife" and this too, while the former is a classic, this one's not too shabby either! Plus, I absolutely fell in love with the kid, he is so damn cute!!!

reply

I always thought it was a great movie, and watch it every Christmas.

No one likes remakes, and although I admit I didn't realize it at the time, I still don't think that's a reason to dislike or criticize the film.

This time, Effie White's gonna win.

Whitney was wrong. Children are no longer the future.

reply

I think its okay but it doesn't really leave you with anything after watching it, but then again I'm not in favour of religion and I believe that you don't have to pray to god to get something you want, that you should believe in yourself, unless that was the meaning, but then again I've only seen it once.

Spreading the love.

I love this film and we all know why it's rated low. This is IMDB and we all know how it goes. Why do some always try to deny it and use that stupid "race card" term?

Why do people hate the things they don't understand? - Bobby Hill, King of the Hill

reply

Because the basic message is one of hope and not horribly mutilated bodies.

reply

Whitney Houston is lousy!!!! The other performances were decent.

What are you gonna do? Kill me? Every body Dies. John Garfield (Body and Soul)

reply

I thought it was boring beyond imagination when I first saw it 4 years ago, but seeing that so many people liked it, I may give this one a second chance this year.

reply

i didn't rate it but i thought it was really boring and i had no attachment to the characters besides jeremiah...

I guess we got the same dreams...or is it the same nightmares?

reply

Just because you like it, doesn't mean other people did to rate it high. And that doesn't make it excellent.
