Refined, stylish, interesting, great cast, a piece of art....

I must state my opinion here because I liked this movie very much. I wanted to see it because there were some of my favorite actors in it, Viggo Mortensen, Christian Bale, John Malkovich and Nicole Kidman. And it was great, they all did a fine job. I also discovered another actor (pretty underrated I think) Martin Donovan, which I instantly fall in love with after that. Beside the cast, I think the sets and the costumes were great also. And let's not forget the soundtrack. All in all it was excellent. Of course I haven't read the novel so I can't make any comparisons, but the movie was pure art from my point of view. I tried to understand why this movie was so underrated but don't really know... even here on imdb are only 3 pages of threads...I'm sad there aren't more people in love with this movie...

I agree. I really enjoyed the movie, it wasnt what i expected at all. I havent read the novel, maybe that would have changed my mind i dont know but i was totally engrossed watching it. i think nicole suited the role perfectly for such a character. i loved the soundtrack too especially the song at the start, and the fact that there were so many different elements coming together.it was a little confusing and i didnt really get the end but i still think it was a beautiful film, so visual.

It's 6 years after your post so I don't know if you'll ever see this, hayleymichelle, but if you haven't read the book, please do, it's a masterpiece and it's very likely that you will appreciate it if you liked the movie. There are passages in it that are only hinted at in the movie -- they are virtually unfilmable -- but they are staggering in their impact when read.

I absolutely love everything about this movie.

Yes - I didn't mean to denigrate the movie in any way, I thought it was genius and as revolutionary in some ways as the book was in its day.
