If you liked this film.....

...watch "The Spirit of the Beehive". It's so much better than Ponette. Just go and watch it!

I don't agree at all. I definitely prefer Ponette.

Thanks for the tip. I had never heard of The Spirit of the Beehive but added it on to my Blockbuster Movie Queue.

I've seen The Spirit of the Beehive and although I liked it somewhat, it was pretty slow and confusing in some parts. Another movie that Ponette reminded me of was "Blame it on Fidel" which was another French movie that focuses on a little girl. In that movie the protagonist is 9 years old and it's about how she develops her own beliefs. It's more similar to Ponette because most of the movie is seen through the eyes of the girl just like in Ponette.

I loved Blame It On Fidel.

"Ponette" always assumes the path forward will require more talking. But the kids just keep saying the same things. "Beehive" is content to let that which is expressed, and for which no more is to be added, sit in silence.

And the ending of Ponette is such a conventional Disney fairy-godmaother cop-out.

I liked it, but I didn't love it.
I'm glad I saw Ponette, but I preferred Beehive. And of course, The 400 Blows.

but as for your heart breaking for a child, see Pan's Labyrinth.

Wooohooo!!!!! They have The Spirit of the Beehive up for live stream on Netflix.
Thanks for the recommendation.

And here are my recommendations "The professional" and "The Fall". I would say that the acting in the fall is just as good as Ponette!

"The Spirit of the Beehive" is a classic, no doubt about it. But, in my opinion, so is "Ponette".
