I suppose for me the humour was wrought from the fact I'd NOT made the link between 'pompatus' and the hipopotamus! To me it was just one of the most random things - which I love - I thank you again for this.

Has the OP even read this article? I ask because the article has absolutely no illumination on the meaning of the word "pompatus." The article strictly mentions the ORIGIN of the word, but not the meaning - at all.
