Is this movie kid friendly? I know it's rated G but that really means nothing.

There is some violence, but it isn't very bloody. Almost of the PG-13 variety, but not quite. As far as I remember, there are some uses of the S word, but nothing more than that. The movie's good fun though.

Bad points for children to watch it:

It contains several uses to the word "s**t" and other moderate profanity.
There is a great deal of hand to hand fighting, and sometimes we see chracters with cuts, bloody noses and mouths, etc. A few men are also shot with no blood, and a man has a javelin thrown into his back by a villain. No blood there either.
A man is kicked into a shark pool and the water turns red. Nothing distrurbing, but just a warning.
A man is suddenly grabbed and strangled by a skeleton, which may be frightening to some younger kids. The scene makes you jump, but it isn't paticularly nasty or drawn out.
A man is shot with a cannon by a villain. His body flies a long way and lands in a lake, but it isn't horrible in any way and doesn't make you jump.
The most scary moment is when a man is tricked into looking through a microscope that emits sharp spikes and pierces the man's eyes. You don't see anything, but you hear his screams of agony, and the villain who did the deed laughs and snaps his glasses in half.
People are vaporised by beams of energy, but not in a disturbing way.

That's about it for bad things. Although my guide may make it sound quite dark and violent, it really isn't at all. The film is very corny, colourful, and great fun to watch for sure.

I actually went to the cinema an saw this movie 10 years ago when I was 10, and here in Sweden it was rated för 11yearolds, and I remember there was a bit of a issue and they talked about to raise the bar to 15 year. So I just had to see it before it was too late =P

So I did, but I have to say that I had more expectation of blood and gore but there was near to none.

The one and only frightening moment was probably when the skelleton grab hold of a dude and you jump up in the chair, but nothing more.

I don´t think its "GOOD" for children but it´s not exactly bad either. But no childern under 8-9 should see it. *my opinion*

Kinda off topic but... I used to watch "friday the thirteen","Jaws","alien" and many more "blood and guts" movies when people lost limbs etc when I was about 6-7 years old(couldn´t even read)

Result of watching those movies was that I became afraid to be alone inte the dark and we used often reanact(spelling?) the movies we had seen, that might sound scary but we never used sharp objects or anything that could hurt us...Still not comfortable in open waters =P
