4.9? it's AWESOME! loved the movie

I don't think The Phantom deserves a superlative like 'awesome' or a score as high as you are suggesting. It's mildly entertaining slightly campy fun that is more entertaining than the critics at the time would admit. The cinematography was of quite a high standard and shows how real film stock with unfiltered lens can look fantastic.

However, the script and story despite being penned by the same writer as Indy 3, Lost Boys, and Lethal Weapon 2 wasn't particularly good and some of the casting and acting left a lot to be desired. I'd say it deserves something in the region of 5.5 to 6.4. I gave it a 6 but anyone giving it more or less than a point more than that is, in my humble opinion, being overly critical or overly generous.
