Only a 4.9 out of 10? This movie was awesome.

I think that's *beep* This movie is certainly better what it's score suggests and packs a lot of childhood nostalgia to it. I still remember having my action figure of The Phantom when I was a kid, and Billy Zane kicked ass wearing the purple suit. Catherine Zeta Jones was a nice touch to the film as well before her epic blowup in Mask of Zorro.

You guys should see the marathon I did for The Phantom titled When Men Become Crime Fighters. You can check it out here on my blog.

loved it! Billy zane is the best!

More like a 6 for me. Especially considering a lot of recent superhero and cg movies get ridiculous rating of way over 7

This was a great film, I agree. I was a fan of the comic strip in the newspaper growing up. The only scene that looks weak in the film is when they ditch the biplane to jump on the horse. Looks really bad. Overall though, Treat Williams is a great bad guy and the 1930's setting is wonderful.

LOVE this movie. So true to the character, and fits the serial-motif of that era. I think that the film suffered because the only comparable comic book films being made at the time were Batman films, and film goers expected this to be a Batman film.

I definitely agree with that. I'd add, though, that what also brought the movie down a bit was the odd editing choices (paring down the relationship elements to nearly nothing) and the really, really strange plot of the crystal skulls and the sub-thread of Ghost Dad.

the cinematography was amazing. really enjoyed the howard hughes-esque bad guy. great action scenes and costume/set design.

Great movie imo - watched it again tonight, wasn't disappointed

I was going to say the same thing. "This movie was awesome"

Nest. Use it, live it, love it.

I agree. I still think The Phantom is one of the better comic book/strip superheroes to be adapted for the screen. In addition to being very true to the source material, it's just plain fun. In fact, I think it's time for me to watch it again.

The movie is definitely underrated. I would rate it a 7 or 8. The scenery and actors are outstanding. The Phantom doesn't really have any flashy superpowers but there are a lot of thrilling moments.

Batman, Daredevil and Hawkeye don’t have superpowers (in the comic book sense) either, but they have trained and honed themselves into heroes, anyway. This film is in my library. Is there any visual more beautiful than them riding together on that great stallion down the most beautiful beach on Earth?

It's pretty beautiful. Phantoms ring had some powers, though.

I love this movie, flaws and all. I dressed up as the phantom, grade three fancy dress. Still salty they didn't have the ring. I've got pictures somewhere. If I find them, I'll burn them.
