The Atmosphere

Now, i must say that this is one of my favorite movies of the genre. I think that this is the perfect movie to watch with the girlfriend or wife. But, as many times i watch it, i never seem to get enough of the atmosfere that is created through-out the movie: everything is so cosy and warm... from the shop where Maggy finds the little cat to Melanie's apartment.

Did anyone notice how even New York is portrayed very "warm" even in a rainy day? This is one the things i love about this movie. Loved it!

Yeah I think the same thing. I get this warm cosy feeling when I watch it. That shop with the kitten was lovely reminds me of Meg Ryan's shop in you've got mail.

I saw it again now and was going to make a topic about the same thing. I agree.

Not if you're from the UK. We still have "S"s in most of the places where you have put "Z"s: Climatise, centralised, cosy etc.

I agree wholeheartedly with the original Poster. A warm glow pervades the entire film and creeps into the hearts of the least sentimental of people (eg. me).

totally agree. bef. i read these comments i was just saying to a friend that i love the colors and thought maybe it was shot thru a filter. many of the char. wear brownish tones but the whole look is almost sepia/rose colored like wearing rose colored glasses.

It's orangey. Autumnal.

Completely agree with the OP. I love this movie!

It is so lovely - I've had a long day and I'm just laying in bed watching it and it's like a warm duvet or a cup of hot cocoa - really nice and reassuring and 'comfy' to watch lol

reply

yes yes yes i went to nyc recently and this film has always ever since i was a kid just felt so heartwarming and encaptivates what nyc life is like lol

reply

I just watched the film and after it thought the exact same thing! Such a lovely atmosphere and lighting throughout!

Ok anyways back on topic about the atmosphire and putting aside the spelling of "cozy" or "cosy"- It could have just been the tint they added on camera...But anyone from NYC understands that there really are days that look and feel just like that- where its raining hard on and off but if its very late spring and the humidity is just right you dont mind getting wet because its comfortably warm out.

The movie feels cozy for me, too! I watched it bed for the second time because I had watched it like a year ago and I have lots of movies but I got the urge to watch this, today and Im glad because it's been raining lately and the movie is realistic and forever relevant in this competive World we live in!

It was raining today on the lovely east coast and I, too, had the strong urge to watch this.

Your feelings are well reciprocated.

Ask me again with your eyes & I'll answer with my fingers, trailing reasons down your spine.

Yes you will notice the extras in the film are also wearing a particular color palette. You will see beige, white, and anyone is wearing a color, its most often a warm red, or a plaid with red. (I saw a lot of few red umbrellas too) And I feel there was a tint added too. Lots of warmth.

Yes, there are many reasons I love this movie and one of them is the great New York vibe.
