Extremely disgusting movie

The original movie with Jerry Lewis and Stella Stevens was fine. Not extremely funny, but I liked it.

The remake is terrible, one of the worst movies I've ever seen, mainly because of the nonstop farts. The movie might have been bearable without that totally unnecessary and disgusting feature.

What made Jerry Lewis produce that awful thing?

It all comes down to if the viewer finds flatulence jokes funny. I don't, but I overlooked that element (and crude jokes in general) and laughed at the many genuinely amusing parts. The movie works because Murphy makes Sherman a sympathetic character.

Lewis wasn't involved with the development of the movie, he got an Executive Producer credit due to his ownership of the material. He didn't know they were making it until quite far into production and was able to negotiate the credit. He was going to have a cameo in the film but decided against when he saw how crude the script was.
