How much is real?

Apparently this film is based on fact, and incredibly the policeman turned up for casting, which is why the director went for the multiPoV style. So when the Policeman suddenly realises that the girl he'd been fantasising about for 20 years was a 'honey trap' and storms off, was that actually 'real' or not? Or was that whole angle just tagged on as fiction?
