This movie scares me to death

I honestly don't know why because I can easly handle "Twister" and I love it but for some reason this one is just freaky. Did you know it is based on a true story?

it's a pretty good movie. It's nothing like the book though. Everything is like..different. It is based on a true story.

I think there was a dead body in it, wasn't there?

It's based on a series of twisters that the town of Grand Island, Nebraska in the 1980's. I used to live there and it's still a big deal every anniversary. After the torandoes all the debri and trash and everything was put in a big pile and covered with sod, it's called Tornado Hill and it's a popular sledding spot in the winter.

Have you ever been in a real one? then its SCARY! lol

reply

Yeah, it was based on the Grand Island tornadoes of 1980. My dad was actually in Grand Island when it happened -- not kidding! He drove a Nabisco truck around the state for summers during college at, ironically, the University of Nebraska. He was staying at a hotel when they went through...his hotel wasn't hit, though. He said it was one of the scariest days of his life.

Everyone in my family are HUGE Nebraska Husker fans, so we really enjoyed the storyline of the father being a former Husker, and seeing all the little references to the university and Big Red football. Hehehe.

Even though the special effects were pretty cheap, you have to admit the entire sequence where the house was being destroyed was pretty well-done. Very intense.

I've been through a few tornadoes myself...one's never hit too close to us, but just a couple weeks ago one hit about 5-10 miles west of us. REALLY scary.

It scared the hell out of me when i first saw it when it was released, i was about 9years old at the time. I couldn't sleep the night i saw it, everytime there was a thunderstorm id go and hide in the basement and stay there for hours until the thunder passed.

I started to apprceate the quallity of serve weather and what it brings as got older and now enjoy when the weather gets a little rough and im looking into becoming a chaser.

I do admit, I got some nightmares from this film.
I saw it when I was really young and back then I liked it, but as I got older and understood weather more (now I'm sort of looking for a career in meteorology besides becoming a Naval pilot and also acting) and the scene where he walks into the room to get Ryan and he see's the tornado outside the window just scared me... I'd wonder what I'd do.

The 2nd chance he went up to get Ryan but the Sirens stopped, he should have picked him up and took him downstairs after everything that happened, but if he would have, then the whole setup for the scene that literally scared the "crap" out of me wouldn't have been there.

Getting into the movie world now I am looking to act and write movies and currently am writing a movie based on a true story about tornadoes.

Now talking about this is getting me shaky because I got storms coming tonight and tomorrow, big ones

Same here i thought that was so scary. I mean it just gets closer and closer as he is trying to get the baby freaky. I agree everytime I watch it its like just take Ryan with u he doesn't want to be there by himself anymore.

I have always had a facination with Torandoes so it never scared me.

i loved this movie. havent seen it in forever.. it scared me too!

I could tell by the look in his eyes that maybe I'm just another one of his lies

Yeah i can honestly say this movie can be passed off as a horror, i found it terrifying, i even do now when i think about, especially at night which is understnadable though i still can't place my finger onit. That bit where Dan asks Arther to stop playing with that rope thing and he says he is not that scared me, it was the sound of 300 mile an hour winds.
I need to read the book, i know its cheesy but why do people dislike this movie anyway? its scary its tense and its thrilling to be honest.

reply

Yep. We've been through a couple, and there's nothing more chilling than that sound. That whole scene is terrifying. It's also hard for me to believe this movie was made 20 years ago as of this post. :P
