Mixed Feelings

I really like their format BUT this specific title is one of my all-time faves !

The movie is truncated(time element)and there is some sacrilege going on with this bona fide classic- however, this treatment, at the same time, could simply be a sendup or just a tribute to a remarkable piece of sci-fi lore...

I've seen the original uncut version of THIS ISLAND EARTH, and while mildly entertaining, I don't think the film is that great. The human characters contribute little to the story, and the outcome of the film may not have even changed much. While I would've preferred MST3K: THE MOVIE be longer, I don't blame them for cutting THIS ISLAND EARTH, because some scenes go on too long or are not important at all. For example, Execter and Brack are spying on the three humans, then all of the sudden the humans are discussing the aliens and giving the cat milk. For the longest time I honestly never realized Ruth's clothes changed. I thought that was literally the next scene because they fit together almost perfectly. I learned there were more scenes between them, like of Cal working. That just proves little was actually lost in editing. I would've liked for them to keep the earlier scene of the Interociter destroying the catalog, though.

With MST3K and Rifftrax, I personally find movies that are at most enjoyable in their own right make for the funnier material. Some of my favorite Rifftrax releases have been for RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, and the original STAR WARS trilogy.
