Ford and Carter. Both one termers. Both initially had a dislike of each other (but they burried the hatchet some time in the 90's). Anybody else think this way?

shareSince the film was from 1996, it was natural to assume the characters were meant to remind us of current and almost current presidents, Lemmon being the old hapless Republican (Bush Sr.) and Garner the womanizing Democrat (Clinton). It's not exact: Garner was older than Clinton, but then this is a codger movie. Bush and Clinton did eventually become friends, though I'm not sure that was known by the time this movie came out.
