Twenty years later...

Wow. Hard to believe that this film was released twenty years ago! Both Lemmon and Garner are gone but what a great film legacy they left us. While this movie may just be a formulaic screwball comedy, the talent of the two leads shines through even the shoddiest direction and writing. Any time these guys were on screen together it was worth the price of admission.

I was in the film as an extra in the all-male Dorothy marching band and spent 18 hours on set in Asheville, NC with Lemmon and Garner, shooting that parade scene. Got to meet them both and was so lucky to be able to briefly speak to them both. Garner was just as gruff as you might expect. Lemmon was very gracious and very funny, even out of character.

What a blast this was to be a part of!

There are some actors that I will miss forever and two of them are in this film. I had numerous opportunity to meet both Jack Lemmon and the actor who I had a junior high crush on James Garner. Garner and Bob Hope were the two celebrities I met the most growing up. But, all three gentlemen were always so kind and generous with their time. They are all hands down the three nicest celebrities I've met, warm and funny. What you see is what you got. I was a very lucky little girl, I didn't know who they were and I think they all loved that. It started when I was about 4 yrs old until I was 18/19. But, these were amazing men, so down to earth, didn't see themselves as BIG STARS, their job was actor and that's how them saw themselves. They came to interviews most of the time alone or PR person came from the movie they were promoting, but they never brought an entourage with them or made demands of the staff to fill their every need. I remember the first time I met Jack Lemmon and he shook my hand and told me his name was Jack and he asked me what mine name was, and I told him but my mom said to call him Mr. Lemmon... he said no, Jack is perfect. All of the old time actors are very similar when I had the opportunity to meet one. i met some of the best, older actors/actresses, were normal people who act for a living. The actors now think they are HUGE STARS, bring their entourage with the them and treat the staff poorly. I have no respect for them nor do they towards their fans. But, Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon and James Garner were all very classy men. They are all gone now but i will cherish those times I got to talk with them.
